A Slice of Chaos: Making Messes and Memories in the Kitchen

As mrs frizzle said: “take chances, make mistakes, and get messy.” Family pizza night is no exception! There is no better place to make memories then around the kitchen table with sauce and pepperoni flying. Little flour handprints and olive slice rings are the symbols of love and house full of fun.

I remember my families pizza nights growing up as a a time to be silly and creative and connect with my siblings. Mom would stretch the dough on the pan and then pass it around the table to each kid in order and the chaos would begin. Sauce splats on clothes, cheese raining down to the floor, more chicken and pepperoni being snuck into mouth’s than on pizzas and of course onion sabotage on the youngest’s creation. Though they usually ended up looking more like a heap of crazy, we each felt like gourmet chefs when they came out of the oven. The chance to get messy and make mistakes in the kitchen with the people we loved built our confidence and our bonds in ways that still carry us today.

Even with us all grown up we still enjoy a good messy pizza night when we all get together. The pizza’s look a little more refined, and the mess quicker to be cleaned, but the memories and the shared love are always the same. Nothing quite beats the feeling of family love and time spent together.
